Home Wheelchair Lifts

Within the home its wonderful the many changes and additions that can be added to aid a person with mobility needs, from stair lifts to showering and bathing facilities, beds, chairs and kitchen aids to make daily living within a persons own home easier.

Another addition that can be added to many homes is a wheelchair lift, a house doesn’t have to be especially big to accommodate one, naturally there has to be significant modifications made, allowing for a passage through from the ground floor ceiling to the next floor up.

The change and improvement that it can bring for the user very much makes it worth the investment, the user can stay seated in a wheelchair and operate the lift easily and with no fuss, making getting upstairs and downstairs so much easier and convenient.

Not all homes will lend themselves to the installation of a wheelchair lift because of the layout of some houses and although some could allow for one to be installed it may not provide enough improvement to the users movements around the home to justify the modifications needed to install one.

They’re designed to take up the least amount of space possible while still being easily accessible enough and operate quietly too, and will still leave the household having full use of living space.

The great thing about wheelchair lifts is that they have been designed well, taking everything into account, from primarily making it easier for the user to move between floors, to the lift itself taking up minimal space and being easy to use and very importantly having various safety features in place making for an all round very useful mobility aid within the home.

Telescopic Access Ramps

One handy type of portable ramp available to provide access for wheelchairs and mobility scooters is the telescopic ramp that is easily extended and locked into place for safety but also able to be folded down small enough that will make this type of ramp easy to carry around.

This type of ramp is especially useful if you need it to be lightweight and taking up minimal storage space, it requires very little time or effort to extend and then fold back down the telescopic ramp.

Care needs to be taken to make sure that each of the two sections of the ramp are aligned properly and that neither side is higher or lower positioned than the other, but overall they provide for a sturdy, lightweight and minimal space solution to provide temporary access and exiting.

Wheelchair Safety Straps

As with most moving vehicles and transportation methods its well accepted that seatbelts or support straps increase safety for the user and can also keep a person firmly in position with less unwanted movement while seated.

For wheelchairs you can purchase lap straps that usually have a lock fastener that is easy to click into place and equally as easy to undo but most importantly it will keep you safe and secure while seated.

They are adjustable too so that you can set it to just the right tightness for yourself so that you’re completely comfortable while the strap is fastened.

A lap strap will usually be quite cheap too as it is a basic addition for your wheelchair, do make sure that the strap that you purchase has been designed for use with wheelchairs though, some straps are sold that are suitable for wheelchairs and mobility scooters, these are fine also, ideally if you purchase from a mobility product retailer you will know that you’re purchasing the right type of wheelchair strap.
