Mobility Ramps

mobility-rampAs you will be aware there are always places that may not have a permanent ramp in place and if you are using a wheelchair or a mobility scooter it can create difficulties when there are steps to get over and sometimes gaps that can cause a problem for a wheelchair or mobility scooter.

Fortunately there is a good selection of lightweight ramps that are portable and can be carried like a suitcase so that where a short ramp may be needed the ramp can be quickly put in place and creates a much better entrance and exist for an individual using mobility products.

The ramps can also be used to provide a safe and sturdy exit from a vehicle where there may not be an actual fitted ramp in place on a vehicle.

The ramps are designed to be easy to unfold and to put into place and are purposely designed to bear high weight loads.

They can be purchased for well under £100 but if you require more from your purchase then you can pay substantially more.

Generally a shorter length ramp will be more suited to curbs and steps, for example a 2ft ramp up to a 4ft ramp, and you will find ramps longer than 4ft, up to 6ft more suited to being used for mobility scooters and wheelchairs exiting a vehicle.

It is important that a mobility ramp is not used beyond its intended use and a shorter ramp should never be positioned at a steep incline if it is not intended to be used to that degree.

Mobility Aids For Children

As mobility aids have continued to be improved over the years they have also been adapted well to suit specific age ranges and notably children.

With products like Paediatric Powered Wheelchairs, Manual Wheelchairs, Pushchairs and Buggies and also Standing Frames to help provide mobilty and of a very high quality to children.

There are also the manual types of products that you would see available for an adult, but in childrens sizes too, so you can find junior crutches and walkers suitable and easy enough for a child to use.

Plenty of other products are available too like specialist moving and handling equipment that are comfortable but provide safety and assistance when handling within certain environments.

There are also toileting and bathing aids, so a whole rangle of assisting and suitable products can be purchased for disabled children to help in the various areas of their day to day activities and the products are always designed with children in mind so that they are as helpful to the child needing the use of the products and also to the carer looking after the child.

The Increase In Mobility Products Availability

In the UK over the last 10 years or more you have probably noticed an increase in the amount and choice of mobility products available and used, its not a case of there suddenly being more disabled individuals but that throughout the country councils and businesses have been encouraged to accommodate people with disabilities and so less restriction when a disabled person is out and about going to work, shopping or taking part in other activities means that they can take their mode of transport to many places with relative ease.

Mobility Scooters for example not only give freedom to someone with difficulties walking but actually provide a rather quick method to be able to go out and visit a friends house or to travel to the local shops, they are easily manoeuvrable, comfortable and various accessories can be purchased and added to them to enable the carrying of shopping and other items.

There are many specialist companies providing whole ranges of mobility products, both online and locally and its great that these companies specialise and have the understanding of what each individual may require.

Depending on a persons needs and preferences some products can be expensive but there are some quite affordable options too for people and as technology, design and understanding of peoples disabilities improves over time it means that the products currently available will continue to be improved, providing better and quite possibly more affordable options for individuals and their families requiring mobility products.

The increase in use and availabilty of mobility products will provide useful feedback to the companies designing and building the products so while the mobility companies provide solutions, the people using the products also provide solutions to the companies through use and experience of the products.
