The Types Of Mobility Aids You Use Most?

For some users of mobility aids it may literally only be one that you need to use but for other users it may be necessary to have all sorts of mobility aids for day to day living, both for use in the home and also others to be used outdoors.

One person might need only a walking frame and of course that same frame may be used both indoors and outdoors but another person may need a stair lift, aids to help them get dressed, to open things in the kitchen, a lift chair, mobility scooter or a wheelchair for getting around outside and maybe other stuff too.

What do you find yourself most reliant on and the mobility aids that get the most use by you?

Mobility Abroad As Good As You Expect?

Here in the UK there is regular improvement and effort being put into mobility to continue to raise the standards for people with mobility needs and to make as much as possible become accessible.

When you get used to a certain standard it can become an expectation that you will see the same standards elsewhere, but expectations and what happens to actually be in place and accessible to you can differ greatly.

We all know that travelling abroad usually means a difference to what were used to, after all, one of the reasons for going abroad is to get a break from the old routine and the familiarity of where you live.

But for those with mobility needs, you rely on certain things being in place, certain needs that you are not so much demanding but rather understanding that these things help you get by, they help you get in and out of buildings, they make the inaccessible to disabled individuals actually accessible.

Foreign countries have different laws, different architecture and quite often a completely different way of doing things and this can make a significant difference to you if you have mobility needs.

Before travelling and wherever possible, you will most likely ask a number of questions anyway, to make sure that your choice of accommodation is suitable and to allow you to make arrangements but its not unheard of for travellers to experience something a bit different from what is promised to them once they have reached their destination.

When you have travelled abroad, whether for a holiday, business or for any other reason, have you found accessibility where you expected it to be and overall was it as you wanted?

Maybe you were let down or maybe it exceeded all of your expectations,  do share your experiences and comment below.

Being Aware Of Mobility Scooter Theft

Many people like to think that certain belongings will be quite safe if left unattended for a short time, especially if you’re in a low crime area and when it comes to mobility aids then surely most people will have morals right? Surely they wouldn’t dream of stealing a mobility scooter, knowing that the user is in need of it.

Sadly though we live in a society where theres always a handful of people who wouldn’t give a second thought about how it will affect the owner if their mobility scooter is stolen.

No matter where you need to leave your mobility scooter, whether its outside a shop or left near the front door of a friends house that you’re visiting you need to be aware that its a temptation and a possible quick earner for those looking out for them, as well as from opportunistic theft.

Because of the risk of yours being stolen its worth considering insuring your mobility scooter as the last thing that you need is to become a victim of theft and then end up severely out of pocket if yours is not covered.

There are also alarms suitable for mobility scooters and anything that inconveniences a thief or puts them off completely is a worthwhile investment.

Never think that it wont happen to you and never underestimate the short space of time that it takes for your mobility scooter to literally be lifted and loaded into the back of a waiting van or a trailer and taken away.
