Caution When Cleaning A Mobility Scooter

cleaningEvery now and then your mobility scooter is going to need a good clean, in between that it can be a good idea to give it a quick wipe over, even with just a dry cloth to remove any dust build up, but generally a good thorough clean of the mobility scooter is great when you have time to.

You should though, practice caution when you are thoroughly cleaning your mobility scooter because an excessive amount of water and in certain areas could create problems and lead to your mobility scooter not working afterwards.

A pressure washer may seem like a good idea at first, and they are great for cleaning cars and other vehicles but of course with a car the electrics and other important areas are covered.

Mobility scooters are more exposed and water going into the wrong area could cause problems with the electrics, and the last thing that you want after you have finished cleaning it is to find that literally nothing is working, or if it does work, that there are some problems with getting things to come on or getting it to operate properly.

As with the type of cleaning product that you may use too, make sure that it is suitable to be used for cleaning your mobility scooter, most importantly though, dont go overboard with the amount of water used.

As much as water is vital for life and throughout the majority of life it’s harmless, it’s amazing how damaging it can be if it comes into contact with areas of a vehicle where it possibly is best not to.

Dont be frightened or worried about cleaning your mobility scooter, it’s good to keep it clean and to maintain it well, keeping it clean can prevent problems in itself, just as long as you dont get water clogged up in somewhere that it shouldn’t be.

Keeping A Spare Mobility Scooter Inner Tube

When you are using your mobility scooter theres a chance that every now and then you may get a puncture and although it wouldn’t be practical or expected to fix it there and then as soon as you get the puncture, it would be handy if you are able to get it fixed shortly afterwards.

For this reason it can be a good idea to keep at least one new inner tube so that if you prefer to do your own maintenance or have a friend or relative do it for you, then you can have the puncture sorted in no time.

Although of course you can repair a punctured inner tube, it can sometimes be better or just as quick to replace the inner tube, you also know then that at least you have a brand new inner tube in place and not one that has possibly weakened through age.

This saves having to wait to get the puncture fixed and in many cases you might find that the puncture is sorted on the same day that you noticed there was one.

You need to make sure that you have the right size inner tube for your mobility scooter making sure that it fits the correct tyre size.

Fortunately inner tubes dont cost too much and depending on size they start at around £6.

Hopefully you wont experience too many punctures while using your mobility scooter, but if you do it’s great if you dont have to wait very long to get it sorted and having a spare inner tube handy can make all the difference.

Walking Frame Glide Skis

walking-frame-glide-skisIt sounds comical at first doesn’t it, glide skis, beacause gliding, skis and mobility are not usually words that you would find grouped together but give me a moment to explain and you will see how these additions that can be added to your walking frame might help you.

Generally a walking frame is there to assist and it should require as little effort as possible for the person to use as the user doesn’t need anything that is going to make it even more difficult to get around, so walking frames are designed with that in mind.

Sometimes though a small addition can make quite a difference and an example of this would be the walking frame glide skis that you see pictured above.

They can be fitted to the back legs of a wheeled walking frame and allow it to glide, though not too freely so as to be dangerous, but enough that it makes it easy for the user to move the frame foward.

Whether they would be suitable for outdoor use is questionable because i imagine that they might wear down too quickly so are probably more suited to indoor use, but they definately can assist the user in moving the walking frame around as easily as possible.

They are priced at £13.65 inc VAT each and are available at epc-wheelchairs.co.uk
