Child Mobility Scooter Board – Simply Fun

childs-scooter-boardFor a child it’s great if more of their mobility aids can be about fun, while still providing assistance to the child.

A padded scooter board can provide plenty of fun and enjoyment while at the same time helping them to develop their balancing skills as well as strength.

They come in various shapes and sizes, the example in the image shows a circular shaped board with padding and two easy to grip handles and the child can choose the direction they want to go while using it.

Also with the board only being a few inches from the ground it makes it a lot safer for them, if they do lose their balance there is much less danger of them hurting themselves.

It should be noted that the boards are only for seated use or lying on their tummy but should not be used while the child is standing, some children may choose to be in a kneeling position and sitting on their legs which is fine too.

The wheels are not locked in any position and are usually of the castor type so that the board can move in any direction under the control of the child.

The boards vary in price depending on the size and shape.

Padded Wheelchair Cushions

padded-wheelchair-cushionWith comfort being an important factor when using a wheelchair it’s important that for long periods of use that you have good seat padding that can also help to relieve and prevent pressure sores.

But the seat of the wheelchair is most likely not the only area that you require enough comfort, it’s important that your back doesn’t get sore and even the arm rests should provide enough comfort so that overall you can enjoy your time in the wheelchair and not become distracted by pains caused by a lack of cushioning and comfort.

A padded wheelchair cushion, like the one above, provides extra padding in all of the areas that matter, rather than just extra padding in the seat area.

You can get comfortable with this type of cushion as it provides extra padding in all of the right spots,  and because it’s one piece it makes it easy to put into place and to remove.

Underneath they are usually waterproof so that you have no worry of the cushion absorbing moisture.

You can rest your arms or have them down at your sides and if the weather is cold then this extra padding is going to give you quite a snug feeling when combined with a cover over your lap or any type of leg or body weather protection.

A full padded wheelchair cushion will usually cost around £95 but the extra comfort that you can gain from one makes it well worth the investment.

Carry More With A Mobility Scooter Trailer

mobility-scooter-trailerAs mobility scooters are continually improved they make a lot of short journeys easier and with various accessories that can be added it means there is little problem in a user carrying a walking stick or crutches, small amounts of shopping and other items on their scooter.

Sometimes though you may need to carry more than a bag of groceries and although some people may hang a shopping bag from the handles it’s not really the best way and could even become a little dangerous as it puts added weight on the handle area, this could make it more difficult for you to turn safely.

A mobility scooter trailer can be suitable for those journeys where you need to transport a few bags of shopping or other items, and safely, as well as keeping the items dry.

All of this needs to be possible without making your scooter difficult to manage, so it’s important that you dont try to attach any type of trailer that you think you will be ok but instead only use one designed purely for use with a mobility scooter.

There will usually be a limit in size for the trailer and this is to make sure that the mobility scooter, with trailer attached does not become a problem to operate and that not too much weight can be added that would cause any problems or put the user at risk.

The trailers are usually lockable too, so keeping your items safe inside, they are built to withstand the natural vibration and wear and tear as a mobility scooter user travels along pavements and roads and will connect to most mobility scooters.

With a trailer you are not as limited to the amount of shopping or other items that you can carry safely, this also keeps yourself safer by keeping anything that shouldn’t be on the handle area off and behind you where it doesn’t become a distraction or a liability.

Attaching a mobility scooter trailer is kept simple, as is detaching it so as soon as you dont need the use of the trailer it can simply be unattached with a few simple steps and reattached with a few simple steps when you need it again.
