Stair Lifts

Stair Lifts can be very useful indeed and a welcome addition in not only homes but also public places where an individual could find themselves completely unable to reach another area of a property and as a result very restricted as to where they can go.

At home as long as a stairway is wide enough then there are usually no reasons why a stair lift cannot be installed.

The installation usually requires for a rail to be fitted that is strong enough to take the weight of the rest of the lift, plus the weight of the individual using the stair lift.

A stair lift will usually move at a slow speed with smooth motion and will not require much effort from the user, so that even if the user has other disabilities that restrict movement, they will usually be able to operate the lift on their own.

They are suitable for many ages so that a child would be able to use one too, so they lend their assistance to a wide range of mobility solutions, from someone severely disabled where family and carers could place the individual on the stair lift, to children, pensioners and many other situations.

While some stair lifts can be a little expensive, some retailers sell reconditioned units and you can save a few hundred pounds at times by purchasing a reconditioned one.

They can also be rented from some dealers, which may make sense where someone would require the installation and use of a stair lift for a limited time and would prefer to not have to buy one.

In some properties it may require a custom installation if a home or other type of property has a differently styled staircase from expected, this will usually require measurements to be taken so that a company can build a custom rail if needed that is specifically built to the persons staircase layout.

There are many stair lift dealers and a good one should make sure that they are selling you the ideal solution for your situation, they will often offer maintenance and servicing too, at an additional cost, unless they provide some sort of all in one package, but should you need the stair lift checked out or repaired it should be quite easy to get a qualified engineer to get the stair lift serviced or fixed.

Also extended warranties can be taken out if required.

Stair lifts have been around for quite some time and they continue to be improved so the future for stair lifts looks good and as new models come onto the market they look to become smarter and will require even less effort from the user.

Walking Frames

A walking frame, also known as a zimmer frame helps to provide support for a person who is still able to stand and walk but through disabilities or old age or a combination of both may need that extra bit of assistance, and in some cases a person who does have the choice of using a wheelchair may choose to use a walking frame to enable them to still move around in an upright position and to allow for some moderate exercise and helping to maintain muscle tone in the legs.

Some walking frames will have wheels and others will not, the frames are very lightweight allowing easy lifting and manoeuvring which is essential for the person using the frame.

In some cases a walking frame may be of use to someone recovering from an injury and regaining strength and movement in the legs and so can be quite useful as a temporary aid.

While walking frames are quite simple looking mobility aids they can make a significant difference to a person being able to move around and are very useful and a welcome support.

The Increase In Mobility Products Availability

In the UK over the last 10 years or more you have probably noticed an increase in the amount and choice of mobility products available and used, its not a case of there suddenly being more disabled individuals but that throughout the country councils and businesses have been encouraged to accommodate people with disabilities and so less restriction when a disabled person is out and about going to work, shopping or taking part in other activities means that they can take their mode of transport to many places with relative ease.

Mobility Scooters for example not only give freedom to someone with difficulties walking but actually provide a rather quick method to be able to go out and visit a friends house or to travel to the local shops, they are easily manoeuvrable, comfortable and various accessories can be purchased and added to them to enable the carrying of shopping and other items.

There are many specialist companies providing whole ranges of mobility products, both online and locally and its great that these companies specialise and have the understanding of what each individual may require.

Depending on a persons needs and preferences some products can be expensive but there are some quite affordable options too for people and as technology, design and understanding of peoples disabilities improves over time it means that the products currently available will continue to be improved, providing better and quite possibly more affordable options for individuals and their families requiring mobility products.

The increase in use and availabilty of mobility products will provide useful feedback to the companies designing and building the products so while the mobility companies provide solutions, the people using the products also provide solutions to the companies through use and experience of the products.
